ALAIN DE BOTTON ON MUSEUMS AND ATHEISM

Religion for Atheists by Alain de BottonCONTEST GIVEAWAY: Retweet for a chance to win a copy of Alain de Botton’s Religion for Atheists. (Contest ends Feb 29th, 2012)

I know what you’re thinking… What does religion have to do with museums, let alone babes?

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from writer/philosopher Alain de Botton wondering if Babes At The Museum would like to do a giveaway contest for his latest book Religion For Atheists (out March 6th.) He admitted he had a similar affinity for the romantic spell that museums cast on us art-lovers.

In his book, de Botton argues how modern museums fail to tell people why art matters, how religion reminds us of the purpose of art, and how curators should restructure museums in order to better nourish our psychological well-being.

Paula at Tate Modern

I’ve seen cute ankle rolls before but non quite as inquisitive as this one. Paula is half German, living in Brazil who, whenever travels abroad, must absolutely make a trip to a contemporary museum or gallery. Here she is gazing at Matisse’s The Snail at the Tate Modern. photo by Ricardo Wolff

AFTER: “Are you done yet?”

If you don’t get the shot within a few seconds, be ready for the kind of charming spunk that reminds you of your first crush on a girl who could positively squash you with her feistiness. Kathleen was spotted at MoMA PS1. When she’s not designing her own clothing line, she’s writing about what a closet full of internet fashion would look like. Photos by Xavier Aaronson

10 Museum Babes w/ Complex

Complex and BATM looked at each other like “Yeah? Okay, yeah!” and so we created a niche photo series celebrating the brainy babes who actually work at museums. Serious diamonds in the rough with exceptional characteristics. If you flip though this photo series you’ll notice an embarrassingly local focus on NYC museums and a big crush on MoMA PS1′s HR department. The Babes (Who Actually Work) At The Museum redux series will have a more global representation. We’ll try harder to travel more. More here.
