An Interview With Marissa

By stupefying chance, I bumped into Marissa twice.

Once at the Whitney and once at the Met Museum. Each time she seemed to be working, like wearing-a-badge-and-on-the-clock working. From these two accidental encounters, one thing was crystal clear, when Marissa is around music should be playing. Metaphorically or actually, whatever is fine, as long as it’s nothing fustian, just a melody that sticks in your mind.

To happen upon Marissa once was most winsome but crossing paths with her twice caused me to have those cartoon stars in my eyes and dreamy half thoughts like, “Who is this enchantress that has the time, let alone the courage, to work at every museum in New York City?! Is she in fact, real? Could she be…”

In this interview, Marissa, museum employee, NY native and babe among a myriad of other things, graces us with her own sorta song… Full interview here

A Babe Behind The Babe: An Interview With Amanda

Nevermind laughter; hypnotism is contagious.

The last time I caught myself really struck by another museum-goer was a few months ago, at the MET in New York. There was someone in standing so still in front of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo’s The Triumph of Marius that I myself was stuck in a competing stupor.

Her motionless concentration was as beautiful as the museum’s own four-corned majesty. Her name was Amanda and she was at the museum doing research for her latest novel.

Months had passed and echoes from our random encounter remained as vivid as ever. To quench our curiosity, we decided to track Amanda down, ask her a few questions about who she really is, in order to trade in our ephemeral hypnosis for a more permanent attraction.

A Babe Behind The Babe: An Interview With Jessica Tom

What we liked most about Jessica was her indulgence. Within a few seconds of spotting Jessica glide through Frances Stark’s My Best Thing exhibition at the MoMA PS1, her sniper-like focus on the exhibited words and full disregard for anyone around her completely fascinated us. Without breaking her concentration too much, we asked to take her photo and then off she went. The memory lingers in a way that’s more vivid than other babe encounters at the museum.

We managed to track Jessica down and ask her some things about herself that we didn’t get a chance to delve into during our initial 15-second interaction back in January. We interviewed Jessica about what artists excite her senses the most, the exciting madness of Yayoi Kusama’s Fireflies exhibit, and how museums could loosen rules a tad bit more to make visits more relaxing. Full interview here.
